SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER
Kiera,

As we watch the gulf for a potential threat, United Way of Acadiana is prepared to pivot should a disaster strike. But we need your help.

Disaster volunteers are at the heart of relief efforts, and there's an easy way to identify if you are willing to help should the need arise:
  • Log into your profile on the Volunteer Center.
  • Click on your initials at the top right-hand corner of the screen then select "Edit Profile."
  • Scroll down until you see "Settings" in the right-hand column and turn the slider on next to "Contact me in the event of a disaster."

And that's it! Now you will be contacted first should a need for volunteers arise following a disaster.

Below you will find several volunteer organizations that are active in Acadiana VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and on the Volunteer Center. These are excellent resources for information and opportunities during a disaster. Keep scrolling to learn more about AVOAD and these nonprofits.

A community is only as strong as its people, and those in Acadiana have proved their resilience and giving spirit tenfold. Thank you for being willing to answer the call.

ACADIANA VOAD
Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (AVOAD) is a humanitarian association of local community voluntary organizations with a mission to foster efficient, streamlined service delivery to people affected by disaster while eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort, through cooperation, communication, coordination, and collaboration in the four phases of disaster: preparation, response, recovery, and mitigation.

Through partnerships with other member organizations, faith-based organizations, and local, state, or federal authorities, AVOAD is able to help diminish the immediate and ongoing trauma that occurs in the wake of disaster and catastrophe.
Whether it is a hurricane, flood, fire, active shooter event, or other disaster or tragedy, 232-HELP offers information on disaster preparedness, up-to-the-minute information on road closures and evacuation routes and shelters, disaster relief assistance, response, and recovery resources, and health and safety information.
For more than 100 years, the American Red Cross in Louisiana has alleviated human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

Its members offer aid and resources to others to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies through immediate assistance, education, outreach, and training.
Catholic Charities of Acadiana's Disaster Response provides immediate response and long-term recovery assistance. Our staff provides leadership, guidance, and resources in our community and provides direct support with a unique understanding of needs before, during, and long after a disaster strikes.

A program of Catholic Charities of Acadiana, Rebuilding Together Acadiana, provides home repairs and renovations to homeowners who are unable to make necessary improvements to their homes due to financial hardship, age, or disability.
United Way of Acadiana is here for neighbors before, during, and after a disaster. For more than 72 years, the organization has been operating in the region to strengthen our community by lifting our local nonprofit groups who are providing disaster relief services.

Currently, United Way serves as a conduit for local nonprofits while connecting clients to services, providing access to funding, providing support services, and accessing resources. No one should have to face a crisis alone.
